  • On January 31 - February 3, 2011 Corey J. Peloquin and Julie Ball are planning to travel to the Florida Educational Technology Conference held at the Orange County Convention Center, 9800 International Drive, Orlando, FL, 32819 to perform two presentations.
    •   Tapping Into The Digital Revolution: Revoluting Science Education For The 21st Century Student
      •  Using "We Tools" foster an online educational community where students can create, share, and connect with each other. With over five years of well crafted technology integration, Julie Ball and Corey J. Peloquin will present various ideas to support technology integration in a science classroom.  Ball and Peloquin will focus on the ease of use, ideas for implementation, and discuss successes and tribulations of podcasting, video casting, and stop motion video creation. Gain a better understanding of how such collaborative projects can enrich classroom instruction. Learn a new method of communication that supports differentiated learning and assessment - pod casting and video casting. Observe various tech gadgets that have been teacher tested - from digital cameras to FLIP cameras, microphones, to hand-held LCD projectors. Ball and Peloquin will reveal their arsenal of online tech tools and classroom tech gadgets used for podcasting, video casting, and stop motion video creation! Hear how Ball and Peloquin have used multimedia to shift the paradigm from teacher led instruction to teacher facilitated instruction. See and hear authentic student work examples as well as student feedback about their creations in support of learning the science curriculum. Attendees will leave with an understanding of which "We Tool" will align best with specific classroom strategies while addressing National Education Technology Standards.
    •  Creating Science Learning Communities On The Science Network
      •  With the advancement of the Internet and the creation of social networking sites, society now has the ability of being informed about nearly everything, without even leaving their desk - the information comes right to them! Why search for science news and events when they can come right to you? With Facebook and Twitter growing at astounding proportions and gaining popularity among students, why not tap into this digital resource and use it in the educational setting? Corey J. Peloquin and Julie Ball will share their experiences in using Facebook and Twitter in a science classroom, library media center, and school-wide. Learn how their school is using Facebook and Twitter as one of their information broadcast systems while building their own online learning community. Hear how Peloquin keeps his students informed and engaged on Facebook while exposing them to rich, cutting edge science content they might otherwise not be exposed to. Strengthen communication with any education stakeholder who is on Facebook or Twitter in 140 characters or less. Harvest the power of social networks in a positive manner to transform your classroom and foster an online community of learners. "Become a friend" not an enemy of social networking.

    •  MESSENGER and Technology Integration With Classroom Instruction That Works
      •  Today's classroom instructional strategies need to be paired with technology tools that engage the learner, enhance instruction, and improve student  achievement. Join Brenda Conway, Corey J. Peloquin, and Julie Ball to learn how Marzano's Classroom Instruction That Works can be aligned with technology tools to engage students and assess student learning, and try some hands-on lessons from the NASA MESSENGER education modules. Aligned with the National Science Education Standards and Benchmarks for Science Literacy, these modules focus on solar system science, solar system exploration through history, and the challenges faced by scientists and engineers when they send a spacecraft to another world. Since solar system exploration is part of every state's science standards and this is the International Year of Astronomy, these lessons offer a powerful way to meet standards while bringing current space science topics to the  classroom and integrating technology that is meaningful and meets the needs of our 21st-century learners. Leave this short course with an understanding of how to connect classroom strategies with the best technology tool to improve and assess student achievement. You'll also receive MESSENGER  education modules, technology resources, and templates that can be implemented in any classroom. Bring your own laptop if you like.
